Yorkshire Sculpture Park Photography

Panoramic Before Photo-Editing Software (Below)

This is my favourite panoramic photograph I took whilst exploring the vast and open landscape of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. As part of a joint trip with my fellow university colleges and I collected into groups and began gathering both inspiration and ideas based on this weeks themes, Fringes, Edges, Opposition and Convergence. To explore this technique I deiced that I would use my photography skill to gather digital visual recording of my overall perspective when observing sculptures and the natural elements of the park. Perspective is a large key area I wish to explore for my overall final outcome and embracing and expressing different perspectives was my primary goal for this trip.

I wanted to explore the use of converging photographs, which is why I decided to produce several panoramic from around the park. I think that these collection of photographs managed to obtain a better sense of place than singular frames as it allowed me breach traditinal constrictions. Unfortunately in regards to the lighting on this day, my original image looked dull and bland even with efforts on different shooting modes and filters, I then had to edit the lighting in photoshop which allowed me to capture the overall bright atmosphere I was aiming for.

Here are a number of single frame photographs I took, experimenting in both monochrome and colour styles. I wanted to explore the use of colour and how it could be used to enhance a messages purpose to an audience. I concluded that monochrome images that had a high contrast created a much more moody and tense atmosphere, where colour create a positive effect on the photograph.

Bill Viola Exhibition

When I wasn't taking photographs I stumbled upon both sets of exhibitions by Bill Viola, these exhibitions required that I didn't take photographs due to sections of nudity. The exhibition used projection, noise and film to produce a series of surreal imagery with elements such as wind, water and fire were prodominat though out the exhibition. The overall atmosphere felt rather like a dream and appeared to affect different senses depending on each projected film.

My favourite projections focused on subjects being submerged in water and with the addition of sounds of trickling water triggered a soothing atmosphere, creating a similar effect when listening to calm absent music.

I also watched a video which related to the exhibition at the sculpture park. This gave me a better insight to his idea and motive for his creations.
